About the UNASA Internship Programme

The United Nations Association of South Africa (UNASA) offers unpaid semester-long full-time and part-time internships to local and international students. Interns support different departments depending on current needs.

Objectives of the Programme

Introduce students to the United Nations environment and careers. Provide practical exposure alongside academic knowledge. Support UNASA’s mission and outreach.

Eligibility Requirements

Current student or recent graduate within 8 months. Strong interest in international development and the UN system. Independent worker with good communication skills. Previous international or volunteer experience is an advantage.

Internship Roles and Tasks

Interns may work on communication and media projects, research and policy analysis, office and administration support, and community fieldwork in Cape Town townships.

Key Details of the Internship

Duration: 2 to 6 months
Cost: Unpaid internship. Interns cover travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses
Visa: Self-funded. UNASA provides support documents after signing the contract
Location: Cape Town office with possible township fieldwork
Travel: Self-arranged. UNASA may assist with airport pickup
Medical Insurance: Mandatory international medical insurance required
Confidentiality: Maintain discretion about unpublished or sensitive information
Academic Credit: Possible, depending on university approval
Safety: Cape Town is safe in tourist areas but caution is required in townships
