Internship Overview
Joburg City Theatres (JCT) invites unemployed Johannesburg youth for its Internship Programme 2025–2027 across three venues—Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Soweto Theatre (Jabulani), and Roodepoort Theatre (Florida). Duration can be up to 24 months, with a monthly stipend of R6,094. South African citizens aged 18–35 who live in Johannesburg, with Matric plus a relevant tertiary qualification (Diploma/Degree/N6), are eligible. Previous internship experience in the same field is not allowed.
Available Internships
1. Programming Internship (3 posts)
Locations: All three theatres
Reference: PR3/08/2025
Qualification: National Diploma or Bachelor’s in Theatre, Performing Arts, Arts Management, or Project Management
Key Duties: Assist with production planning, scheduling, artist coordination, budgeting, and reporting.
2. Stage Internship (1 post)
Location: Roodepoort Theatre
Reference: Stage/08/2025
Qualification: National Diploma in Live Events Technical Production or equivalent
Key Duties: Support lighting and audio/visual rigging, assist with sets, props, routine maintenance, and inventory.
3. Marketing Internship (1 post)
Location: Joburg Theatre
Reference: Marketing/08/2025
Qualification: National Diploma in Digital Marketing, Communications, or Social Media Marketing
Key Duties: Create social media content, conduct trend research, handle photography/video, do graphic design.
4. Graphic Design Internship (1 post)
Location: Joburg Theatre
Reference: GD/08/2025
Qualification: Diploma in Multimedia or equivalent; proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro
Key Duties: Design visuals for posters and social media, create reports, mood boards, file management, and print-ready artwork. A portfolio is required.
5. Employee Relations (HR) Internship (1 post)
Location: Joburg Theatre
Reference: ER/HR/08/2025
Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Labour Relations, HR, Industrial Relations, or Employment Law
Key Duties: Support disciplinary hearings, grievance processes, case research, CCMA/Bargaining Council documentation, and staff training.
6. Marketing & Public Relations Internship (1 post)
Location: Soweto Theatre
Reference: M&PR/08/2025
Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Marketing, PR, Communications, or Media Studies
Key Duties: Plan social media campaigns, write press releases, promote events, engage stakeholders, and monitor media.
7. Building & Security Internship (1 post)
Location: Roodepoort Theatre
Reference: B&S/RT/08/2025
Qualification: Grade 12 or N3; basic plumbing knowledge is a plus
Key Duties: Perform building maintenance, assist in electrical/plumbing tasks, ensure safety compliance, conduct inspections, and basic repairs.
